About Story Bored

Write it. Draw it. Hand it to your friends. Hope they know what they're doing.

Story Bored is an online multiplayer drawing and voice-acting party game for 2–12 players.

Create a premise, turn it into a storyboard or comic, write dialogue for your characters, and then hand those characters over to your friends to perform.

The catch? The actors don't get the full story...

They receive their lines with limited context, record their performances, and only discover what they were actually voicing when everyone watches the completed storyboard together.

CREATE YOUR STORY

Start with a premise and build your own storyboard panel by panel.

Draw scenes using brushes, shapes, fill tools, colors, and other drawing tools. Add characters, write their dialogue, assign roles, and decide how your story should be performed.

You don't need to be an artist. A terrible drawing with great dialogue works just as well... usually...

VOICE SOMEONE ELSE'S

Once the stories are ready, players become the cast.

You'll receive lines from other players' creations along with directions such as Menacing, Flustered, Weeping, or Movie Trailer Voice.

What you won't receive is the entire story.

Record your interpretation of the line without knowing exactly what happened before it, what happens afterward, or why you're saying it in the first place.

Writers can even apply voice effects such as pitch changes, echo, grit, and reverb without the actor hearing the final result beforehand.

WATCH IT ALL COME TOGETHER

After everyone finishes recording, it's screening time.

Story Bored combines the drawings, dialogue, characters, and recorded performances and plays the completed creations back for the group.

For the first time, the actors get to see the scenes behind their lines, the writers get to hear how their characters were performed, and everyone gets to find out what they collectively created.

FIVE WAYS TO PLAY

  • Classic Mode — Create your own premise and storyboard, then let everyone else provide the voices.

  • Comic Mode — Draw a comic page, place speech and thought bubbles, and have the group perform it one balloon at a time.

  • Swap Premises Mode — Everyone writes a premise before the ideas are swapped. You have to create a storyboard from somebody else's idea.

  • Swap Scripts Mode — Write a complete script without drawing it. Another player has to illustrate what you wrote.

  • Custom Mode — Choose the rules yourself and customize how the session plays.

BUILT FOR FRIEND GROUPS

Story Bored is designed around private online sessions with your friends. Join a lobby using a six-letter room code and create stories together with groups of 2–12 players.

Hosts can control round timers and other session settings, allowing your group to decide how much time players have to write, draw, and record.

While you're waiting for someone who is taking their masterpiece a little too seriously, jump into minigames and other activities until they're finished.

SAVE THE RESULTS

Finished something that's actually worth preserving?

Save completed storyboards and export them as MP4 videos so you can keep the final result after the session ends.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE GOOD AT DRAWING.

You don't have to be good at writing, either.

And you definitely don't have to be a voice actor.

Bring some friends. Make something stupid. Perform it with completely inadequate context. Then watch the disaster together.
