Lady Lewis

More than anything, Lady Lewis yearns to return Lower DeSalle to its former glory, even if only for the benefit of Hunters. Her reputation as Lewis’ most beloved entertainer makes her the perfect person for the job, but the hidden truth behind the saloon’s Corruption may ruin everything.

A Real Gem

One of Lady Lewis’s party tricks was to shoot a cigar out the mouth of anyone drunk enough to volunteer. As a Hunter those skills are put to a different use, but this New Army Swift reminds her of better days.

Pearls Before Swine

Lady Lewis liked to keep this Auto-4 Shorty underneath the counter of the saloon, only wielding it for a special type of someone. It isn’t as though she didn’t warn them: act like a pig, and suffer the wrath of the pearl.

Petticoat Spur

Lady Lewis used these alluring Throwing Knives to jokingly threaten a favorite patron who liked to tease her. She never dreamed that she’d one day have to use them to kill that same patron after he contracted the Infection and came for her.

Once known as nothing more than ‘the saloon lady,’ Ruby Angeline eventually worked her way into the hearts of patrons just as deeply as Lewis’ Saloon itself, earning herself a new nickname: Lady Lewis. Not because she owned the saloon or had even met the Lewis who’d opened it, but because of how, over time, she’d become as much of a fixture to the saloon as the saloon had become to the town. Her favorite patron had once called Lewis’ “the heart of Lower DeSalle.” She was later forced to kill him after he became infected and tried to rip her throat out.

In quieter moments, she let herself carefully prod at one specific memory from the ‘before times,’ her mind like a hesitant tongue fearing searing heat: the night a certain band from a nearby town performed at the saloon. The unnaturally dark weight of the music had clung to Ruby’s soul like something unholy. She’d watched as the band’s eyes rolled back in their heads while they crooned and pounded keys and stomped and clapped and wailed, the singer’s fingers waving in the air as though performing an invisible spell—or clawing away some outside force. It had made Ruby feel suddenly and hysterically certain that the song was a curse. Afraid, she’d turned away from the stage, as though doing so could protect some hidden shadow in her soul from being awakened.

Things had moved quickly after that. The rise of the Hunters. The fall of the saloon. The breaking of Ruby’s heart as it became clear that Lewis’ had become a Corrupted birthplace for the worst kind of monsters, always coming back no matter how many times they were killed, Scrapbeak, The Butcher, any of them.

At the end of the day, it didn’t matter if the saloon’s status as some Corrupted spawn nest had anything to do with the night of the strange performance. This was her home. She could not bring herself to accept that it was gone forever, and so she took the inoculation, sealing her fate to try and resuscitate the heart of Lower DeSalle until she succeeded or died.

Still, though. If Lady Lewis ever happens to cross paths with that band again? Well, she has a list of questions for them.

And a few bullets too, depending on the answers.
