About Kagami Forge
Your visual novel — no programming
Kagami Forge is a visual novel editor that lets you assemble a story like a video editor. Drag backgrounds and characters onto the stage, write dialogue, add choices — and see each moment exactly as the player will.
Under the hood is Ren'Py, the engine behind thousands of visual novels. Everything you create is a plain Ren'Py script: open it and edit it by hand anytime, and mix the visual editor with code as much as you like.
Features
Scene — backgrounds, sprites, expressions, dialogue, transitions, music and video. Click any moment to preview the frame without launching the game.
Story — the whole novel on one graph: scenes, branches, endings. See where every choice leads.
Variables and endings — trust, money, flags. See which choices change them and which ending they unlock. While the game runs, watch the values live and tweak them on the fly.
Characters — name color, typing speed, voice blips, portrait, a name plate of their own. Dialogue styles: classic textbox, speech bubble over the sprite, phone chat, full-screen NVL.
Interface — main menu, dialogue window, saves, settings and inventory from ready-made templates. Drag, recolor, add sounds and animate every single button.
Animations — a library of ready-made motions and effects plus an editor for your own.
Assets — images, sprites, sounds, video and fonts in one place. Pick fonts straight from Windows — the editor warns you if a font can't be redistributed or lacks the letters you need.
Writer's notes — cards for characters, places and plotlines, plus a daily word goal. Never shipped with the game.
Localization — export a spreadsheet for translators and import it back.
Splash screen — logos, credits and an 18+ age gate when the game starts.
Build — Windows, macOS, Linux and a Steam folder in one click.

Mistakes are safe
Undo and redo survive restarts. The editor keeps project backups and won't let a broken edit ruin your script.
Easy to start
The tutorial project is a small game in itself: play it, then open its scenes and see how everything is made. Interface in English and Russian.
